Why isn’t my resume being reviewed? 5 possible reasons

“Resume views: 2” – tells you a job site. Why is there so little, since job searches have been going on for a month? We’ve highlighted 5 reasons why recruiters don’t view job seeker resumes. Read on and look for what went wrong in your case.

Reason 1: Inaccurate Job Title

The job title is one of the key elements of a resume, so it is extremely important to accurately and concisely identify the desired position. The position you are applying for must be absolutely specific. Excessive creativity and humor are definitely not appropriate here, strive for typical names: write “public relations manager”, not “curator of the direction for establishing relations with the electorate,” “secretary at the reception,” and not “fairy of office hospitality.”

If in the field “Job title” you write “Any”; “Various” “Suggest”; “I will consider options”, etc., resumes will be viewed much less often. The recruiter has no time to read the work biography and think about what can be offered to such a candidate. He will prefer someone who knows exactly what position he can apply for.

What else to look for? Do not include the city or company where you work in your job title: this complicates perception (the line looks too long). This is how your current employer can “figure out” you (if you hide your desire to quit).

You shouldn’t highlight the job title with the CapsLock key: the sequence of capital letters is hard to read, is perceived as a scream, and scares away.

Finally, check if you have typed part of the name in Latin letters – such a mistake will reduce the chances of your resume getting into the search results (for example, if the first letter in the word “specialist” is Latin “si”). This, of course, does not apply to HR managers, PR-directors, and other professions, where the name suggests the use of foreign words and abbreviations.

Reason 2: empty resume fields

It is not clear what the applicant is counting on if he did not fill in the “Achievements” field and did not describe his main responsibilities. The recruiter will not be at a loss to guess what the candidate for the position of account manager at Everest has achieved. Most likely, skimming through the resume and realizing that the key field is not filled in, the HR manager simply will not open it and read it in detail.

Fill in all the fields of the resume that we offer you: indicate the position, describe your achievements in previous jobs, key skills, etc. – let every word add points to your competition.

Reason 3: negative description of previous experience

No matter how hard it may be for you to work in the same place, you should not describe your experience with negative connotations. “Made a modern office out of a soviet office, and no thanks”; “I plowed like a slave for 10 years for a meager salary” – such phrases will definitely not add views to your resume, because no one wants to have an eternally dissatisfied employee on the staff of the company. Exclude the negative from the resume, focus on your achievements – your resume will be viewed more often.

Reason 4: insufficient activity of the applicant

Do not expect gifts of fate. Your task is to independently search for suitable vacancies and apply to them. According to statistics, recruiters view CVs submitted by job seekers on their own 1.5 times more often. This is not surprising: by sending a resume to a company, you confirm that it would be interesting for you to work there, and high motivation always attracts employers.

Reason 5: bad photo

Look at the search results of a resume through the eyes of an employer: try a resume search by entering your job title. You will see that resumes with high-quality photographs in a business style immediately stand out against the general background. Find a suitable snapshot in your archive – together with a clear and concise description of the functionality, well-designed fields, this will definitely add to your number of views. Photos that make it difficult to see your face, in which you are in the company of other people or an overly informal setting, reduce the chances of your resume being viewed.
